Bari 1-day guide

Bari is a charming city in southern Italy, the capital of the region of Apulia. If you only have one day to explore Bari, here is a convenient route that will help you make the most of your time.

Morning

  1. Basilica di San Nicola: Start your day by visiting this famous basilica, where the relics of Saint Nicholas are kept. It is one of the most important pilgrimage sites, especially for Orthodox Christians.
  2. Bari Vecchia: Spend some time wandering the narrow streets of the Old Town. Experience the true atmosphere of Italy: laundry hanging between houses, typical Italian courtyards, and friendly locals.
  3. Castello Normanno-Svevo: Visit this historical castle, originally built by the Normans and later fortified by the Swabians. You can learn a lot about the city's history here.

Day

  1. Lunch at "Antica Osteria" or "La Tana del Polpo": Try local dishes such as orecchiette pasta with turnip greens, traditional focaccia, and fresh seafood.
  2. Promenade of Vittorio Emanuele II and Piazza del Ferrarese: Walk along this promenade to feel the pulse of modern Bari. There are many shops, cafes, and galleries here.
  3. Piazza Mercantile: This lively square has numerous bars and cafes. Take a moment to enjoy a cup of coffee and relax.

Evening

  1. Lungomare Nazario Sauro: Take a leisurely stroll along the waterfront to enjoy the view of the Adriatic Sea. It is beautiful both at sunset and any other time.
  2. Teatro Petruzzelli: If possible, attend an evening performance or simply admire one of Italy's largest theaters.
  3. Dinner at a traditional restaurant: End your day with dinner at one of the restaurants specializing in Apulian cuisine, such as "Al Pescatore" or "Ristorante Terranima."

Additional Tips:

  • Be sure to try the local wine and the famous liqueur "Amaro."
  • Check the schedule of local markets if you want to bring back fresh produce or souvenirs.
  • Wear comfortable shoes, as the cobblestone streets in the Old Town may not be the most comfortable for walking.

This route will help you quickly get acquainted with the main attractions of Bari and enjoy its rich history and culture.
