Burgos 2-day guide

Burgos is a beautiful city in Spain with a rich history and culture. It is perfect for a short visit. Here is a rough two-day itinerary.

Day 1: Historic Center and Main Attractions

Morning:

  1. Burgos Cathedral (Catedral de Burgos): Start your day by visiting this magnificent cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The cathedral is elegantly designed in a Gothic style and is known for its architecture and art. Don't miss the internal chapels and wonderful stained glass windows.
  2. Arco de Santa María: After the cathedral, take a stroll to the Arco de Santa María, which once served as the main gate to the city.

Day:

  1. Las Huelgas Monastery (Monasterio de las Huelgas): Visit this royal monastery located just outside the old town. Here you can see magnificent tombs and interesting museum exhibitions.
  2. Lunch: Try local dishes at one of the restaurants in the city center. There are plenty of places serving traditional tapas and Castilian cuisine.

Evening:

  1. Cartuja de Miraflores: This former Carthusian monastery is located in a beautiful park and is known for its impressive altars and the tomb of King Juan II.
  2. Walk along the Arlanzon River: End the day with a walk along the river, where you will find plenty of cozy cafes and bars. It's a great place to relax and enjoy the evening.

Day 2: History, Culture, and Nature

Morning:

  1. Burgos Castle (Castillo de Burgos): Start the day by visiting the ancient castle. From here, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the city, making it a perfect spot for a historical walk.
  2. El Parrque de Burgos: If you feel like getting some nature, visit this park, where you can take a walk and enjoy the morning atmosphere.

Day:

  1. Human Evolution Museum (Museo de la Evolución Humana): This modern museum is dedicated to the study of human origins. Its exhibits are based on excavations in neighboring areas recognized as UNESCO sites.
  2. Lunch: For lunch, find a restaurant with traditional Spanish cuisine to try asado or chorizo.

Evening:

  1. Central streets: Take a walk along the central streets, such as Carrera de Mercaderes, and visit shops and souvenir stores.
  2. Theater tour or flamenco show: If you're interested, attend an evening show at a local theater or concert hall to immerse yourself in Spanish culture.
