Pisa City Guide for 1 Day

Pisa is a charming city in the Tuscany region of Italy, known for its historical landmarks and, of course, the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa. Here is a rough itinerary for a day in Pisa:

Morning

  • Piazza dei Miracoli (Square of Miracles):
    • Leaning Tower: Start your morning by visiting this iconic leaning tower. It's best to book tickets in advance to avoid queues.
    • Cathedral (Duomo di Pisa): A magnificent cathedral with stunning architecture. Entry is often free, but you need to purchase a ticket to access other attractions on the square.
    • Baptistery: The largest baptistery in Italy, known for its unique acoustics.
  • Campo Santo: Historic cemetery also located in the Square of Miracles. A peaceful place adorned with frescoes.

Lunch

  • Restaurant in the historic center:
    • Recommended to try local cuisine. Find a cozy osteria or trattoria for a delicious lunch. Try Tuscan dishes like ribollita or pizzas cooked in a wood-fired oven.

Day

  • Walk along the Arno River quay:
    • Stroll along the Arno River and enjoy the beautiful views of the historic buildings.
  • Church of Santa Maria della Spina: A small but very elegant Gothic church located right on the quay.
  • Borgo Stretto: The central shopping area of Pisa with numerous shops, cafes, and historic buildings. A great place to buy souvenirs and relax with a cup of coffee.

Evening

  • Piazza dei Cavalieri (Square of the Knights):
    • This square was the center of Pisa's political life in the Middle Ages. Here you can see the Palazzo della Carovana and other historic buildings.
  • Dinner at a trattoria:
    • End the day with dinner at one of the restaurants serving traditional Italian dishes. Don't forget to try the local wine.

Night Walks

  • Spend some time enjoying the evening city as it takes on a special atmosphere under the light of the street lamps.

Pisa is a city to be explored on foot, so feel free to wander off the beaten path and discover your own hidden gems. Enjoy!
