Potsdam is a picturesque city in Germany, famous for its historical landmarks, palaces, and gardens. Here is a rough itinerary for a two-day stay in Potsdam:

Day 1: Historic Center and Sanssouci Palace Morning

  • Sanssouci Palace Start your day with a visit to the famous palace of Frederick the Great. Explore the palace grounds, visit the impressive interiors, and admire the beautiful gardens. We recommend taking an audio guide to better understand the history of this amazing place.

  • Sanssouci Park Explore the vast park around the palace, where other interesting buildings are located such as the New Palace, the Chinese Tea House, and the Orangery Palace.

Afternoon

  • New Palace Located in the western part of Sanssouci Park, this palace impresses with its architecture and interiors. Also visit the Pavilion, the Orangery, and other buildings.

Evening

  • Historic center of Potsdam Take a walk through the historic city center, including the main street Brandenburger Straße. Visit the Dutch Quarter with its unique architecture and many restaurants and shops.

Day 2: Palaces and Surrounding Nature Morning

  • Cecilienhof Palace This palace played an important role in the history of the 20th century as it hosted the Potsdam Conference in 1945. Learn more about the post-war world and the history of Germany.

Lunch Have lunch at one of the restaurants near the New Garden where Cecilienhof is located.

Afternoon

  • Babelsberg Palace Continue your tour by visiting this romantic castle. It is located on the banks of the Havel River and surrounded by a beautiful park worth exploring.

  • Alexandrowka A 19th-century Russian colony with wooden houses. A walk through this area will transport you to a different historical context.

Evening

  • Glienicke Bridge This "Bridge of Spies" during the Cold War served as a place for spy exchanges between East and West. It offers a beautiful view of the river and surroundings.

  • Conclude the day with dinner at one of the restaurants on the Havel River promenade where you can enjoy great food and river views.

Additionally If you have extra time or want to change things up, you can also visit the Barberini Museum or the Potsdam Filmpark Babelsberg, the oldest film studio in the world.
