Rijeka City Guide for 2 Days

Rijeka is the third largest city in Croatia, located on the coast of the Adriatic Sea. It is a bustling port city with a rich history, culture, and picturesque views. Here is a two-day itinerary to help you make the most of your time in Rijeka.

Day 1: Historical center and cultural landmarks

Morning:

  1. Korzo: Start your day with a stroll along Korzo, the main pedestrian street in the city. Here you will find plenty of shops, cafes, and restaurants. Enjoy the atmosphere and have a cup of coffee at one of the local cafes.
  2. Clock Tower: Located near Korzo, this is one of the most famous landmarks in Rijeka. Climb to the top to enjoy a view of the city.

Day:

  1. St. Vitus Cathedral: This is the main church of the city, built in the Baroque style. It is a short walk from Korzo and worth visiting for its impressive interior.
  2. Governor's Palace: Walk to the museum to learn about the history and culture of Rijeka and the entire Croatian Littoral region. In addition to historical exhibitions, temporary exhibitions are also held here.

Evening:

  1. Carnario: Lunch or dinner at this seafood restaurant by the sea will be a perfect end to the day. Try fresh seafood and enjoy the view of the sea.
  2. Promenade: End the evening with a walk along the waterfront, enjoying the evening breeze and the city's atmosphere.

Day 2: Nature and unique spots

Morning:

  1. Trsat Castle: Start the day with a trip to Trsat Castle, located on a hill. From here, you will have a breathtaking view of the city and the port. The castle is surrounded by a picturesque park, perfect for walks.
  2. Church of Our Lady of Trsat: Visit this church, which is an important pilgrimage site. It is located near the castle.

Day:

  1. Admiral G. Senna Square: Explore this elegant square and the surrounding streets, full of old buildings and interesting architecture.
  2. Botanical Garden at the University of Rijeka: This place offers a peaceful retreat among a variety of plants and gardens.

Evening:

  1. Swimming in the bay: If the weather allows, head to one of the beaches in Rijeka to relax by the sea.
  2. Outdoor concert or performance: In the summer, Rijeka often hosts various cultural events outdoors. Be sure to check the schedule for events during your stay.

Helpful Tips:

  • Transportation: The public transport in Rijeka is well developed, but the city center is best explored on foot.
  • Language: The locals speak Croatian, but many understand English.
  • Currency: Croatian Kuna, however, since 2023, the official currency in Croatia has become the Euro.
