Taormina 3-day guide

Taormina is a picturesque city on the eastern coast of Sicily, known for its stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea, ancient architecture, and rich history. Here is a suggested three-day itinerary in Taormina that will allow you to fully enjoy this beautiful place:

Day 1: Getting to know the city

  • Morning: Start with a stroll along Corso Umberto, the main street of the city. Here you will find plenty of shops, cafes, and restaurants. Visit Palazzo Corvaja, a historic building that is now used as a cultural center.

  • Day: Explore the Greek Theatre (Teatro Antico di Taormina), one of the city's main attractions. The theatre offers stunning views of the sea and the nearby Mount Etna. Visit the Villa Comunale gardens to enjoy the tranquility and beauty of the surrounding landscape.

  • Evening: Have dinner at one of the traditional Sicilian restaurants. Try local dishes such as pasta with sardines (Pasta con le sarde) or caponata.

Day 2: Natural beauty and beaches

  • Morning: Head to Isola Bella beach, one of the most famous beaches in Taormina. This place is also a nature reserve, so don't miss the chance to admire the nature.

  • Day: If possible, take a tour of Mount Etna. This active volcano will leave you with unforgettable impressions. In winter, you can ski here, and in summer, you can go hiking.

  • Evening: Return to Taormina and take a walk through the city streets to admire the evening lights.

Day 3: Culture and history

  • Morning: Visit the Cathedral of Taormina (Duomo di Taormina), which combines elements of different architectural styles. Visit a small museum of Sicily to learn more about local history and culture.

  • Day: Climb to the castle on Mount Tauro to enjoy panoramic views of the city and the coast. Have lunch at a local café, try arancini - Sicilian rice balls, or panini with local ingredients.

  • Evening: End the day by attending one of the evening concerts or performances at the Greek Theatre, if it is open for events during your visit.

Additional tips: If you have time, you can visit nearby towns and villages, such as Castelmola, which is located just a few kilometers from Taormina and is famous for its stunning views. Don't forget to try local Sicilian desserts, such as cannoli and granita.
