Marseille 3-Day Guide

Marseille is a city with a rich history, attractive culture, and beautiful landscapes. Here is a rough plan for a three-day stay in this wonderful city.

Day 1: Historical Marseille

  1. Vieux-Port: Start your day with a visit to the heart of Marseille. Take a walk along the waterfront, enjoy the view of yachts and fishing boats. Check out the local fish market to experience the city's atmosphere.
  2. Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde: Climb the hill to visit this magnificent basilica and see stunning panoramic views of Marseille.
  3. MuCEM: Explore the modern building dedicated to the culture of the Mediterranean. The museum often hosts temporary exhibitions that may interest you.
  4. Le Panier: Wander around the oldest district of Marseille with its narrow streets, colorful buildings, and many small cafes and shops.

Day 2: Cultural Heritage and Nature

  1. Château d'If: Take a boat trip to the famous castle, known from Alexandre Dumas' novel "The Count of Monte Cristo." A tour of the castle will allow you to learn more about its history.
  2. Parc Borély and Plage Prado: Spend time outdoors in one of the city's most beautiful parks. Then head to Plage Prado to relax and enjoy the sea.
  3. Cite Radieuse: Visit the famous residential complex designed by Le Corbusier. This is an example of modernist architecture and a UNESCO monument.
  4. Le Four des Navettes: Try the traditional Marseille cookies "navettes," which have been baked there since 1781.

Day 3: Surroundings of Marseille

  1. Les Calanques: Take a tour of the famous Calanques creeks. This national park features breathtaking limestone cliffs and crystal-clear water. You can go hiking or take a boat tour.
  2. Cassis: After Les Calanques, visit the charming seaside town of Cassis. Wander its streets, visit the local market, and enjoy the view of the Mediterranean Sea.
  3. Wine Tours: In the Cassis area, there are small wineries that offer tastings of local wines, including the famous Provence rosé.
  4. Farewell Dinner in Marseille: Upon returning to Marseille, end your trip with a farewell dinner at one of the traditional fishing restaurants to try local dishes such as bouillabaisse (a traditional Provencal dish).

This itinerary will give you a great insight into the culture, history, and natural beauty of Marseille. Have a pleasant trip!
