Nantes 2-Day Guide

Nantes is an amazing city in western France, famous for its rich history, beautiful architecture, and modern art installations. Here is a rough plan for two days to fully enjoy this city.

Day 1: Historical and Cultural Nantes

Morning

  1. Château des ducs de Bretagne (Castle of the Dukes of Brittany) - Start the day by visiting Nantes' main historical monument. Explore the fortifications and the museum inside to learn more about Nantes' rich history and the Brittany region.

  2. Cathédrale Saint-Pierre et Saint-Paul (Nantes Cathedral) - A beautiful Gothic cathedral just a few minutes walk from the castle. Admire the stained glass windows and original interior.

Day

  1. Le Bouffay District - This historic area features narrow streets and a variety of cafes and restaurants. A great place for lunch and a leisurely walk.

  2. Passage Pommeraye - Visit this magnificent 19th-century covered shopping arcade with beautiful architecture and many interesting shops.

Evening

  1. Quartier Graslin (Graslin District) - Explore this historic part of the city, home to the Graslin Theatre and many restaurants. Dinner at one of the local brasseries will continue your cultural immersion.

Day 2: Modern and Natural Nantes

Morning

  1. Île de Nantes (Island of Nantes) - Start the day with modern Nantes. Visit "Les Machines de l'île," an innovative complex where giant creatures come to life through mechanics. Don't miss the famous Great Elephant!

  2. Carrousel des Mondes Marins (Marine Worlds Carousel) - Opposite "Les Machines de l'île" is this fairytale carousel embodying marine myths and stories.

Day

  1. Jardin des Plantes (Botanical Garden) - Take a stroll through this magnificent botanical garden, full of diverse plants and art installations. A great place to relax and have a picnic.

  2. Musée Jules Verne (Jules Verne Museum) - Learn more about the great science fiction writer born in Nantes. The museum is located on a hill overlooking the Loire River.

Evening

  1. Loire River - Spend the evening by the river. Enjoy dinner at one of the restaurants overlooking the river, then take a leisurely walk, enjoying the sunset.

Additionally:

  • If you have time, visit Lieu Unique, a cultural center located in the old LU factory.
  • Keep an eye out for various temporary exhibitions and events happening in the city so you don't miss out on anything interesting.

Nantes is a city where history and modernity blend together, providing a unique experience for every visitor.
